Lord Beaverbrook is said to have met an American actress,
presumably at a cocktail party in Toronto, in 1937.
He teased her with the question,
“Would you live with a stranger for a million dollars?”

She said, “Yes.”

“And what about for five pounds?”

She fumed, “What do you think I am?”

He replied,
“We’ve already established that.
Now we are trying to determine the degree.”
